At age 63, The Running Man pushes forward. He doesn't look back, he doesn't stop to think "what if?", he utilizes what he's got, and he runs with it.
For years now The Running Man has been religiously taking CoQ10, or co-enzyme Q10. CoQ10 is a natural, fat-soluble nutrient present in virtually all cells- it exists everywhere there is life. CoQ10 is vital in the production of energy throughout the body. Although CoQ10 is produced by the body, and exists in some dietary sources, these levels decrease with age and may be insufficient to meet the body's requirements. When these levels become insufficient, cells start breaking down, starting with the heart. The reason for this is that the heart is one of the most metabolically active tissues in the body. In the average person, the heart propels 2,000 gallons of blood through 65,000 miles of blood vessels by beating 100,000 times each day. Heart cells have more CoQ10 than any other type of cell.
In studies conducted since 1998, it has been found that Heart disease patients are commonly CoQ10 deficient. Correcting such deficiencies have proven to often produce amazing results. The presence of supplemental CoQ10 is a key to the heart's optimum performance. In people that have had a heart attack, CoQ10 assists in repairing the heart muscle and restoring heart function. In a study conducted by The American Heart Association in 1998, it was found that CoQ10 can provide rapid protective effects in patients with a heart attack if administered within three days of the onset symptoms. Due to the fact that CoQ10 is evident in all cells throughout the body, it is beneficial in treating and preventing not only heart attacks; but congenital cardiovascular disease (CVD), high blood pressure, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), angina, and congestive heart failure. To go even further, CoQ10 has also been studied for its ability to improve the health of individuals with amotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease. These studies have been sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, and a most recent study showed that CoQ10 caused a slowing of the progression of Huntington's disease, a devastating and degenerative disease that is always fatal. In fact, no other medication, drug, or nutritional supplement has ever been shown to cause a decline in the progression of this terrible disease.
CoQ10 is not the only answer to the complex issues of heart disease, neurological diseases, or immune dysfunction; however, research indicates that it's a bigger piece of the puzzle than physicians and scientists ever imagined. The more this naturally occurring compound is studied, the more benefits are found. It is recommended that you take 100 to 200 mg of CoQ10 daily, depending on your family history of heart disease and personal heart disease experience. CoQ10's safety has been evaluated. Dosages in studies have ranged from 100 mg to 1,200 mg daily. To date, no toxicities have been reported. Occasionally mild stomach upset stomach may occur. Taking CoQ10 with meals usually alleviates this rare effect. Be sure to consult your physician before starting any supplementation program.
